20” PORCELAIN BRIDE BY SANDRA BILOTTO FOR ASHTON DRAKE, RED TRIMMED GOWN

Description

Offered here is a large porcelain bride doll designed by Sandra Bilotto for Ashton Drake.  The turned shoulder head, forearms and hands and lower legs and feet are porcelain; the body is firmly stuffed fabric with wire armature for easy positioning.  The doll has brunette hair worn in an upsweep. The stationary eyes are dark brown with attached upper lashes.  Her face is beautifully painted and she wears red earrings to match the trim on her elegant dress. The back of her shoulder plate is signed with artist’s signature “Sandra Bilotto” and number A275.  The doll was produced in limited edition as part of the series of brides produced for Ashton Drake.  Her gown is unusual in that it has faux bolero “jacket” with red piping, red gores in skirt, the white panels re trimmed with gold and red embroidery and red jacket collar and bustle bow.  The chiffon veil is suspended by a beaded headband around the cluster of curls, and the edges of the veil are softly rippled.  There is a tiny dark spot on the left back that I have not tried to clean – it is about pinhead size.  The doll wears white pantaloons, crinoline petticoat covered with rayon lining.  Her hands are poised as though holding a large bouquet, but there are no flowers present.  She is offered “as is” as pictured and described. This doll had belonged to an adult collector and had been kept in a glass cabinet – she was obtained by me at the estate sale.
